Activities at schools

26—27 Season

We are expanding our educational offer to seven initiatives aimed at fostering theatre practice in the classroom. We want children and young people to step onto the stage with a richer perspective and to see theatre as a learning tool with multiple applications. This season, two activities are carried out in collaboration with the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Programme for Improving the Presence of Arts and Culture in Education: La caixa de Lliure, which is being extended to the Barcelona Metropolitan Area and the Terres de l’Ebre region, and Escena pilot, which will be implemented in the city of Sabadell.

  • Ages 3–7 (Early Years and Lower Primary) / We bring a small stage box to the school, equipped with lighting and sound. By exploring its possibilities, children discover the expressive power of their hands and bodies through theatrical experimentation.

Ages 8–12 (Middle and Upper Primary) / The box grows into a stage device, a space for inventing stories while learning about the different performing arts disciplines, both onstage and behind the scenes.

A project by the Teatre Lliure designed by Joan Baixas and Marina Baixas based on an idea inspired by Dadà.

  • Ages 14–17 / The Barcelona City Council’s Institute of Culture and the Teatre Lliure promote the creation of a performance developed collaboratively between different public schools. This year’s project will be carried out with the company Atresbandes, with in-class support from teachers at the Institut del Teatre. The performance will be shown in Gràcia on 10 and 11/06.

  • Third edition of the Escoles Tàndem programme by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera with Escola La Sedeta in Barcelona. This academic year will focus on the actress Anna Lizaran. And on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the exhibition Fabià Puigserver amb mirada d’infant will be shown again in Montjuïc.

  • Ages 12–16 (Secondary Education) / We continue with this programme developed by the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) and the Barcelona Education Consortium (CEB) since 2009. An artist co-creates a performance with a group of secondary school students, which is presented at the end of the school year. This year’s artist is Neus Masdeu.

  • Creative audiences – Long-term training programme for teachers, promoted by six national performing and musical institutions. It includes an audience development school that will work on six programmed shows, and a creation lab with the company Indi Gest to create a performance that will premiere in June at L’Auditori.

Performing and music training – In collaboration with the Culture and Education Programme of the regional Departments of Culture and Education and several local councils, teachers are trained in dance, theatre and music to gain direct experience of live arts. Accredited by the Department of Education.

Continuing our collaboration with the elPetit, this year we are proposing a performance specifically designed to be staged in schools.

Obertura uses light and music and invites audiences to experience performing arts up close in an immersive and participatory way. In performances held in schools that request it, we will explore the apparent difference between the tangible and the intangible: the shift between what we see and touch, and what we perceive but cannot explain.
