Description
Sally, Vi and Lena are having a chat while sitting in the garden and having a cup of tea. Mrs Jarrett comes in from the street and joins the conversation. All four of them are in their seventies or approaching them. They continue chatting until Mrs Jarret starts talking about apocalyptic events. The pattern of conversation repeats itself until it culminates in each woman’s most intimate confessions and fears.
The director Magda Puyo immerses herself in the universe of Caryl Churchill, one of the most experimental voices in English drama, with this play, ESCAPED ALONE, which premièred at the Royal Court in London in 2016. It is a vision of how catastrophe may - or may not - enter our social bubbles, which is more applicable today than ever, and is interpreted by four giants of the stage.
