Description
In a project supported by the Temporada Alta festival, the Lithuanian director Oskaras Koršunovas stages Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya with a Catalan team. The cast includes Ivan Benet, Raquel Ferri, Anna Güell, Julio Manrique, Lluís Marco, Carme Sansa and Júlia Truyol. It is a co-production with an international spirit, with its own imprint of the inner apocalypse of the Russian author's characters.
Uncle Vanya, which premièred at the Moscow Art Theatre in 1899, is one of the most important works of dramatic literature of the nineteenth century. Chekhov assigns an apocalyptic ending to each character: boredom, a wasted life, unrequited love, or endless work define its status as one of the Russian playwright's most bleak and representative works.
This co-production follows the decision taken by the Temporada Alta's a few years ago for some of its co-productions to have an international dimension, inviting an international director to lead a Catalan artistic and technical team. Since then, they have staged the productions Davant la jubilació [The Eve of Retirement], by Thomas Bernhard, directed by Poland's Krystian Lupa, The Coleman family omission [The omission of the Coleman family], directed by the Argentine director Claudio Tolcachir, La neta del senyor Lihn [Mr Lihn's granddaughter], directed by the Belgian Guy Cassier, and Història d’un senglar (o alguna cosa de Ricard) [Story of a wild boar (or something by Richard)], directed by Gabriel Calderón.
