Description
Burnt toast (2020) is the final part of a trilogy about human nature formed by The Hum (2017) and Mummy Brown (2018) by the Norwegian theater company Susie Wang.
Somewhere Deep South in a hotel lobby, Betty is working at the front desk when Danny appears with a briefcase chained to his wrist. After checking in, Danny wants to visit the museum, but then he spots Violet. She sits in the lounge sipping the drink of the month while breast-feeding her baby daughter. Danny and Violet strike up a conversation and quickly bond. Violet thinks her daughter looks a lot like Danny. Could he be the father? What is in his briefcase? When does the museum close? And what about the future? One thing leads to the other and large amounts of dirty blood will flow and dreams and drives will mess things up for the characters in their search for love and connection.
"I can safely say that I’ve never seen anything quite like Burnt Toast, which mixes sardonic comedy and splatter horror (...) A disturbing yet tender tale of love and cannibalism."
–A. J. Goldman, The New York Times
The company Susie Wang was formed in 2017 by writer and director Trine Falch, composer and sound designer Martin Langlie, actor Mona Solhaug and set designer Bo Krister Wallström. Having worked in a conceptual performing arts field for many years, embracing everything authentic and real, they became increasingly curious about the theatrical un-real and as Susie Wang they now make theatre with characters and dramatic storylines.
