Yet another year we are partnering with Barcelona Draws, the drawing festival organised by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona and the Museu Picasso, which is celebrating its 14th edition this year. The goal of the festival, which commemorates the anniversary of the artist’s birth, is to promote drawing not only as a technique of creation and expression but also as a tool of learning, communication and intellectual processing.

The shadow always accompanies us, wherever we go. Bring yours to the Teatre Lliure and let it surprise you!

Greek mythology places the origin of painting in the intuition of a young ceramist and sculptor, Calirroe, who wanted to preserve the image of her lover by revisiting with a charcoal the silhouette of her face projected on the wall by the light of a candle. This relationship between light and drawing is also at the origin of this workshop.

"The workshop consists -based on the myth of Calirroe-, on rephrase by each participant, aided by the shadow projected by a spotlight, the silhouette of his companion on a vertical paper (for example, a child and his father or mother). We will have prepared some headbands that the person portrayed can put on (horns, protrusions of various forms) to alter a little the silhouette. At the end, on a table you can finish the drawing with colors, filling the silhouette, adding a background, etc."

Raimon Rius (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1972) is a cartoonist, stage lighting designer and professor of lighting at the Institut del Teatre. Trained in pictorial procedures at the Llotja school, he had as a drawing master the Seville painter Gonzalo Beltrán. Rius combines his career as an illustrator and teacher with the illustration, occasionally doing commissions for advertising agencies and publications.
