Description

Premiered in 2023 at the Sala Flyhard, it arrives at the Espai Lliure the confessions of an actor who bottoms out, played by Santi Ricart: it is a portrait of the Barcelona theatrical world in an intimate and hypnotic thriller between comedy and drama.

One night, the kiwi fish in the fishbowl at home looks directly into his eyes and a prophecy is revealed. Trapped in a labyrinth of professional and personal frustrations for some time, sick of everything around him and of the life he is forced to lead, he decides to grab the reins and flee forward. Nothing will be the same again, he thinks; now it’s my turn for luck. But, obviously... let’s not fool ourselves, either. This isn’t a Hollywood film, and he’s not a hero on the run.

La nit del peix kiwi is a lie, an escape forward, a dead-end. Someone has remained trapped in this story like a fly in a spiderweb; someone who resembles us rather closely. And no: fleeing and lying are not valid options for the poor sod. Fiction is only a neighbourhood of reality, and our desperate main character will have trouble and need help finding his way to the centre. At times a thriller, at times a comedy, at times a melodrama, this piece explores the weaknesses that turn us into the pathetic and wonderful beings that we are. Following the adventures and misadventures of a liar, a professional of fiction, may have its reward. It’s possible that at some point, hidden in the most unexpected corners of this show of swindlers, we may well find tiny, precious particles of the actual truth.
