The richness of actions with the educational centers contributes to educating children and young people as more than good spectators and proposes the first seeds for dialogue, the association of ideas, the critical spirit and the ability to express oneself.
Actions with educational centers
La caixa del Lliure
La caixa del Lliure is the Teatre Lliure’s educational proposal for nursery and primary school students that seeks to encourage the practice of theatre in the classroom. To our minds, theatre is part of the core curriculum, and this is how we want to convey it. La caixa del Lliure for nursery school follows the philosophy of the old toy theatres, while in primary school it grows and turns into a foldable device with light, sound and sets that enable children to build their own stage in the classroom.
La caixa allows children to discover the variety and infinite diversity of the world, to awaken their senses, to ask themselves questions, to investigate the body’s possibilities, to try to understand how a theatre works from the inside, to build new worlds, to create an emotional alphabet and to spark their interest in the unknown.
The Lliure provides schools with the caixa (which means ‘the box’), a video tutorial, specific training and ideas for play so that students can become boxes filled with knowledge, intuition, expression and experimentation with the stories they like.
Escena pilot
This is the fifth edition of this educational and artistic project put on by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona and the Teatre Lliure which is based on enlisting different public schools in Barcelona to co-create a show. Under the leadership of a professional stage manager, and with the goal of giving adolescents the opportunity to have a collective creative experience in contact with the professional environment, the teachers are given the tools to use theatre language and techniques in the classroom so that theatre creation both becomes a part of and is nourished by the youths’ social and educational reality.
The stage direction of the project for the Season 23/24, Pànic escènic, is in charge of the company José y sus Hermanas, which with students and teachers of the institutes Barri Besòs, Caterina Albert, El Joncar, Les Corts and Vall d’Hebron will work on personal and social fears and phobias from the coming-of-age narrative genre. If the monsters of the seas represented surprise and fear of the unknown, and the hominid monsters such as the yeti or bigfoot find their roots in the myths and legends of Asia and Africa, what are the threats and fears that are gripping us today? What forms could the monsters that embody our contemporary fears take? Are they only curses to overcome or can they also be allies to whom we must question and understand? The creative process will take place throughout the school year and the result will be on view on 29 and 30 May at the Espai Lliure.

Lliure and University
The Lliure is linked with several university centers to open collaboration paths from the theater with students of all ages. This season we collaborate with the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), the Institut del Teatre de la Diputació de Barcelona (ITB) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - ETSAB.
IT Teatre
Four years ago, the Lliure hosted and co-produced the annual show of the IT Teatre project in conjunction with the Institut del Teatre de la Diputació de Barcelona. This time, director Lucía Miranda, inspired on Mercè Rodoreda, is charged with making us reflect on why and how we tell each other stories.

Now we face the forth edition with more entity and even more desire to study!
Polytechnic challenge
The Teatre Lliure collaborates with the ETSAB and the UPCArts of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in the creation of a group of architecture students who, during the first semester of the season, We invite you to become imbued with all the activity of the Lliure and to reflect on its character as a place of scenic, educational and cultural encounter.
They will not only be the audience of the end result of this activity: they will also know the building, its plasticity and how it interacts with the people who work in it, with whom it visits or with the neighborhood and the neighborhood that lives with it. An analysis that will aim to speculate on the possible transformations in the architecture and urbanism of the Lliure to think again what model of city theater we want for a future.
The result of the work carried out in these days will be the prototype of a Lliure of the future that offers above all a better response to the broad transversal concept of accessibility, not only in an architectural or urban sense. It will be incorporated into the installation Les cases del Lliure, which can be seen in the lobby of the Sala Fabià Puigserver from April 23, 2024.

The Lliure in the classroom
The actors, actresses, directors and other members of the artistic teams of our shows will go to the school to talk with the students of the play they have seen. They must prepare in advance the questions to be asked to the artists (they can count on the support of the Dossiers crítics) and it is necessary that the teachers collaborate in the dynamization of the session.

Critics' files
Critics' files are accompanying materials for performances that aim to bring the notion of theatrical criticism to children and young people. The tools used by the critic encourage an active attitude of the viewer. Awakening the critical sentit allows us to look at the world outside the theatre in a different way. It helps to question it, to understand the complexity and the confrontation of ideas, to go beyond the simple I like/ I don’t like -the prevailing culture of l'impulse of the like- and to take students to wonder why a show bores them, irritates them, makes them laugh or cry, or think, or make imagination fly.

School debate
Students will see how a theatrical creation develops, from the initial idea to the premiere, in three moments of the creation process: an encounter with the artistic team at the beginning, an attendance at a rehearsal, and a final encounter after having seen the work. Its aim is to give them a deeper knowledge of the work and to better understand the mechanisms of the scenic language.
